RNLI volunteers rescue stranded woman from car submerged in sea

RNLI volunteers rescued a woman stranded on top of her car after the vehicle was submerged by the incoming tide.

The lifeboat was alerted to the incident in Silloth, Cumbria by the U.K. coastguard at 10:41 am on Saturday, and launched the rescue operation at 10:46.

The woman had climbed on top of her car as she was unable to swim and upon the lifeboat’s arrival the sea water was already higher than the level of the car roof.

The recovery team established a safe route around the car in order to rescue the woman, with one crew member entering the water to reposition her in order for the lifeboat to successfully recover her.

She was treated for mild hypothermia, however no other injuries were reported. An awaiting ambulance paramedic checked her over and gave her the all clear.
