RNLI Lifeboats called out to three dramatic Edinburgh rescue missions on the same day

The RNLI was called out to three separate incidents on Sunday across the capital which required emergency lifeboats.

Volunteers at the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat service revealed they had a very "busy" Sunday after attending three dramatic rescues with little breaks in between.

Firstly the service was required at Cramond, where four people were recovered after being submerged in so much water that they couldn't walk.

After handing the casualties over to the ambulance service, the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboats were required again at a further two rescue missions in Granton and Portobello.

In a Facebook post, the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat service said: "Busy Sunday for our volunteers who responded to three back to back calls.

"We were paged at 17:09 to reports of multiple people in the water on Cramond Island causeway.

"The lifeboat made best speed to the causeway and recovered four persons who were waist-deep in water and struggling to walk over the submerged causeway with the flooding tide.

"The casualties were taken to Granton harbour and handed over to South Queensferry Coastguard and Scottish Ambulance Service

"Please check tide times and never attempt to cross the causeway when it’s covered.

"We were then tasked to two persons in an inflatable being blown offshore from a beach in Granton.

"The lifeboat was on scene minutes later and located the inflatable dinghy and escorted it back to the beach where they were met by South Queensferry Coastguard.

"We were then tasked to a police incident in the Portobello area.

"Thankfully a short time later the lifeboat was stood down as the situation was resolved. The lifeboat was then released to return to the station."
