RJD legislators to meet today to discuss fluid Bihar political situation

PATNA: Amidst the political situation arising after the exit of former Union minister RCP Singh from JD(U) in Bihar, the main opposition RJD has called a meeting of all its legislators and senior party leaders at 10, Circular Road bungalow on Tuesday.

The RJD on Monday also dissolved its panel of spokespersons and advised all its leaders to refrain from giving any media statement.

The developments came at a time when JD(U)-BJP relations look strained. A senior RJD leader said his party has been watching the political developments closely.

"No doubt, the relation between JD(U) and BJP is not good, but you never know the future. If BJP accepts Nitish Kumar's demand, including removal of state assembly Speaker and minimum two berths in the Union cabinet, they may continue in the coalition. Or else, he will shift to our side. Let's see the development," an RJD lader said.

When asked about the ongoing turmoil and whether RJD will welcome Nitish to form new government, RJD state president Jagadanand Singh said, "There is no turmoil here (his party office)." Singh said he will not comment on speculations. He further said there were other alliance partners in the Mahagathbandhan and together they will take a call.

To another question regarding the possibility of a midterm election in state, he said his party was ready for any kind of fight. Talking about the meeting of a group of party legislators on Monday, Singh said, "It was to discuss the organizational election, which will start soon after Muharram and Rakshabandhan. It was also to decide on the 2024 and 2025 elections."

While issuing a letter about dissolving the panel of party spokespersons, Singh cautioned them against giving statements to the media as it would be considered indiscipline.

When asked about the Tuesday meeting, a party leader said, "Many legislators could not come on Monday as they were in their respective constituencies. So, tomorrow, another meeting has been called."
