RJD chief Lalu Prasad likely to appear before Patna court virtually

PATNA: Serving a prison sentence of five years on the charges of excess withdrawal from Doranda (Jharkhand) treasury, RJD chief Lalu Prasad may appear before a special CBI court at Patna through virtual mode in light of the production warrant issued against him by the special judge in connection with yet another fodder scam case related to Bhagalpur-Banka treasury.

According to the sources, Lalu will be produced to appear online from Riims Ranchi, where he is presently undergoing treatment as a convict.

The lawyers of Patna civil court said the court is functioning physically from Monday to Friday and virtual hearings are being conducted only on Saturday.

In such a condition, special permission will be required so as to convert the Friday proceedings into a virtual one. Thus, in both scenarios, Lalu is most likely to appear through virtual mode during the hearing.

Last week, the CBI court at Patna had directed the issuance of the production warrant against three accused, including Lalu, for their appearance in the trial being conducted in RC63-A of 1996 lodged for fraudulent withdrawal from the Bhagalpur-Banka treasury.

It is the only case of fodder scam under trial in Bihar. Lalu has already been convicted in five fodder scam cases in Jharkhand and heard by the CBI court in Ranch. The cases were lodged before Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar.
