Riyan Parag slams second-fastest century in Ranji Trophy history, hits 12 sixes in 155-run knock

NEW DELHI: Talented all-rounder Riyan Parag once again came into the limelight as he slammed the second-fastest century in the history of the Ranji Trophy in Raipur on Monday.

Parag's belligerent innings stood as the second best, only behind wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's 48-ball ton against Jharkhand in the 2016 Ranji season.

Assam skipper Parag achieved the milestone in just 56 balls on Day 4 of their Group B Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. Parag ultimately got out on 155 which came in 87 deliveries at a strike rate of 178.16. His impressive knock featured 11 boundaries and 12 sixes.

Despite Parag's significant contribution, Assam lost the match by 10 wickets as Chhattisgarh successfully chased down the paltry target of 87 runs in 20 overs with openers Eknath Kerkar and Rishabh Tiwari contributing 31* and 48* runs respectively.

Vashudev Bareth and Jivesh Butte claimed three wickets each as Chhattisgarh bowled out Assam for 254, securing an 86-run lead.

Earlier, Amandeep Khare's impressive knock of 116 runs for Chhattisgarh played a crucial role in helping his side post a total of 327 in the first innings.
