Riyadh Intensifies Efforts to Find Concrete Solutions to World Issues

Saudi Arabia’s official representative for the 2020 G20 summit, State Minister Fahd bin Abdullah al-Mubarak (R), during the briefing in New York (SPA).

Saudi Arabia’s official representative for the 2020 G20 summit, State Minister Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Mubarak, said that the Kingdom was deploying continuous efforts to reach concrete solutions to world problems, underlining the importance of cooperation between the G20 states to achieve this goal.

Al-Mubarak briefed the UN General Assembly on preparations for the high-level meeting in November, in the presence of representatives of the 193 member-states.

The meeting in New York was opened by the president of the UN General Assembly, Tijani Mohammed Pandey, and the UN undersecretary-general, who both expressed their hope for a successful G20 summit under the Kingdom’s presidency.

Al-Mubarak said that his country “emphasizes the importance of the links between the Kingdom’s G20 program, the United Nations agenda for sustainable development for 2030, and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

He also noted that the group and the UN were “assuming an essential role in enhancing international cooperation.”

He said that under the guidance of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the G20 agenda development process was being conducted in an inclusive and comprehensive way in order to reflect the most important world issues.

After presenting the main goals of the G20 in 2020, he stressed that the Kingdom would focus during its presidency on three axes that fall under the overall goal.

Those include, as explained by Al-Mubarak, “seizing the opportunities of the 21st century by empowering people – especially women and youth – by creating the right conditions in which they could live, work and thrive; safeguarding the planet by fostering collective efforts to protect the environment, especially on the issues of climate, water, food, and energy; and adopting long-term and bold strategies to share the benefits of innovation and technological advancement with a strong focus on the digital economy.”
