The Saudi Ministry of Media celebrated on Monday the announcement of Riyadh as the Capital of Arab Media for 2018-19.
It hosted an event on the occasion that was hosted by Minister of Media and Chairman of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad and attended by Arab ministers of information, Arab League officials, journalists and writers from different Arab countries.
Awwad took the guests on a tour of the accompanying exhibition, which showed historic photographs, press tools and documents on the origin and development of Saudi media.
He said that Riyadh and the entire Kingdom were witnessing ambitious technological and digital projects under the supervision and support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.
These projects will be the gateway to a new media age, he stressed.
Baghdad was last year’s Capital of Arab Media.
Awwad then held a meeting with the Arab dignitaries, detailing to them the events that are planned in Riyadh in its capacity as Capital of Arab Media.
It will host the first Arab media forum, which will tackle the mechanisms and means of implementing the Arab media campaign to achieve the goals of sustainable development as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The forum also aims at abiding by the code of honor of the Arab media and ethics of the profession and to ensure credibility away from the fabrication of sensational stories.
It will seek to benefit from European Union expertise and discuss ways of cooperation between it and the Arab League in combating hate speech and promoting moderation and tolerance.
