Riyadh Dismisses Claims of Meeting between Saudi, Israeli Chiefs of Staff

A general view of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Reuters)

Saudi Arabia dismissed on Wednesday Israeli media allegations that the Saudi and Israeli chiefs of staff had met, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

An official source from the Foreign Ministry denied that Saudi Chief of the General Staff Maj. Gen. Fayyad bin Hammad Al-Ruwaili had held a meeting with his Israeli counterpart Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot.

He deemed the claims as baseless.

The two officials had attended an international meeting of defense chiefs of staff that was held at the Andrews Air Force Base in the United States, acknowledged the source.

The event, dedicated to combating violent extremist groups, was held on October 15 - 16 and saw the participation of 81 countries.

The event included a formal dinner that included all participants and held in honor of the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the source. The Saudi and Israeli officers did not, however, hold any bilateral meeting.
