Riyad Mahrez reveals Benjamin Mendy prediction that came true in Man City win vs PSG

Riyad Mahrez insists Manchester City's players are relishing their hunt for a treble as they look to build on a Carabao Cup victory and Champions League semi-final first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain.

After winning the Man of the Match award in the Carabao Cup final win on Sunday, Mahrez continued his fine form into the Champions League as he scored a free kick to earn the Blues a 2-1 lead to take into their second leg next week.

Before that, however, is a Premier League trip to Crystal Palace - a game which could be the one that clinches the Premier League title providing City win and Manchester United lose to Liverpool on Sunday.

With so many important games coming up, Mahrez said that there is no time to focus on anything but the next game, as he said these kind of run-ins are what drives professional footballers.

“We are going to enjoy it a little bit even though it’s not over," he told City's media team after the PSG win.

“We have a big second leg at home but today we will drop a little bit of the pressure, enjoy it, have some food and sleep and then tomorrow we concentrate on (Crystal) Palace.

"I love playing every three days, we go again. Friday we go to London, play Palace on Saturday, come back and play PSG. That's the way you have to be as a professional footballer. These stages and important games, you don't think about tiredness. You just have to recover quick and focus on the next games."

Mahrez also warned his teammates of the threat PSG will pose them in the second leg, pointing to their victories at the Nou Camp and Allianz Arena in previous rounds of this year's competition.

"It's very good, we have to not forget that PSG are a very good team away," he said.

"They scored four goals at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich so we have to be careful. But if we stay solid like we did today we were very solid, it was very good. We have to stay this for the second leg."

And reflecting on his winning goal - a free kick that went through a poor PSG wall and into the back of the net - Mahrez admitted it was slightly fortunate while attributing some credit to substitute Benjamin Mendy, who had predicted Mahrez's goal the previous day.

He revealed: “I wanted to go around the wall to be honest, and I missed it but it went between the two players. Fortunately it was in and we were so happy because we knew we could win here, to score the 2-1 for the team was amazing.

"Yes it’s because of Ben [Mendy], he asked God, and God gave me this goal."
