Riyad Mahrez opens door to Man City exit in chat with Benjamin Mendy

Riyad Mahrez has refused to rule out a return to France one day having confessed his admiration for PSG and Marseille.

The Manchester City star has enjoyed a rapid rise since crossing the Channel in 2014 when Leicester paid £450,000 to sign him from Le Havre.

In the six years since the Algerian has twice won the Premier League and been named the PFA Player of the Year in 2016.

Mahrez bagged 48 goals for the Foxes which convinced City to pay a then club record £60m to sign him.

The 29-year-old has become a regular at the Etihad, but when questioned by City team-mate Benjamin Mendy admitted he didn't know what the future held.

"He's crazy, but it's true that I was a supporter of Marseille when I was little," he said in an interview with Canal Plus .

"Regarding PSG - it's not relevant because I'm still under contract and I'm fine in Manchester, but Paris is my city. I was born and raised in Paris. You never know.

"I could have gone to play in Marseille [in 2014-15] and I can still play in Marseille. You never know in life, you shouldn't close any door.

"I didn’t know at the time and I was fine at Leicester but they ruled that I didn’t have the required level [to play there]."

City will travel to the south of France to play Marseille at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

Mahrez is now into his third year as a City player and last season enjoyed his most productive campaign since his move.

The Algerian scored 13 times in 50 outings for Pep Guardiola's side and looks set to be a key figure one again this term as City look to regain their Premier League crown.
