Riyad Mahrez refutes scathing "they don't give a s***" blast at Man City teammates

Riyad Mahrez has denied he made comments about his Manchester City teammates suggesting "they don't give a s***" about other matches.

The Algerian joined City back in 2018 and has helped the club to six major honours in three seasons, including two Premier League titles.

Mahrez had been linked with a potential Etihad exit this summer, but is determined to fight for his spot in Pep Guardiola’s trophy chasing squad.

Earlier this summer, he said: "What if I want to go higher? I do not see what is higher [than Manchester City ].

"To try another championship [elsewhere]? No. I really love England and English football is wonderful. I don't want to leave. I still have goals to pursue here.

"When you see that Guardiola wants you, it's flattering. The acclimatisation here was not easy, but our relationship today, everyone knows [it is great]."

Quotes were attributed to the forward which claimed he was unhappy at a perceived lack of interest in other scores and results from some of his teammates.

As well as appearing to point criticism at Man City colleagues, the comments also alluded to the fact he had friends in the game, who were only playing for the money, rather than for the love of the sport.

However, Mahrez has since taken to social media to address the comments, posting: "Never said this or anything close to this."

Mahrez has started just one of Man City’s opening three Premier League games, but has come off the bench to score one and create another in back-to-back 5-0 victories for the champions.

With just two years remaining on his current contract, Mahrez knows it will be difficult to start week-in-week-out for City, despite coming off the back of his most prolific season for the club.

He is competing in a stacked City forward department, which has seen £100million signing Jack Grealish join them in the summer, while Ferran Torres has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign.
