Riyad Mahrez forced to deny he said Man City players 'don't give a s***' about rivals' results

Riyad Mahrez has taken to Twitter to comments widely attributed to him claiming Manchester City teammates 'don't give a s***' about their Premier League rivals.

Mahrez's apparent comments came to light on Wednesday where he apparently said some City teammates, or players he's played with in the past' only see football as a job, and would come into a dressing room in a morning asking about the previous day's results.

Mahrez reportedly told Canal Plus: "The lads at City don't watch other teams' matches on TV. They don't give a s*** about them.

"Plenty of times in the dressing room I've heard certain others asking: 'What happened in the game last night?' I don't know what to say. It could be the Champions League semi-final.

"But if you are a footballer, you shouldn't be coming in the next morning and asking what the result was in yesterday's game.

"I have friends who are footballers, yet they don't like football. They play it because they are obliged to, and because there is big money involved.

"For me football is a passion. I am beginning to near the end of my career. I ask myself what am I going to do in the world of football. Honestly, that is the only thing going on in my mind."

Some outlets reported the comments as an attack on his Manchester City teammates, forcing Mahrez to take to social media to clarify his position.

Quoting one of the reports, he said: "Never said this or anything close to this." He added three emojis with a figure placing a finger to the lips.

Mahrez is currently on international duty with Algeria, who face Djibouti and Burkina Faso over the weekend, starting on Thursday night.
