Riyad Mahrez explains Man City's dressing room reaction to another late Liverpool winner at Crystal Palace

Liverpool's late winner against Crystal Palace gave them a 12-point lead over Manchester City before last season's champions took on Chelsea.

But Pep Guardiola's side came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over the London club, closing the gap back down to nine points.

Riyad Mahrez scored City's winning goal after Kevin De Bruyne's had equalised and Mahrez has revealed how the team reacted to Liverpool's late win before kick-off.

"We knew they had won, but we are built to win every game," he said.

"If they win or lose, we try to win. It’s our mentality. We have to win anyway.

"We don’t look too much at Liverpool. At some points last season they were ten points ahead of us, and we kept going.

"We have to try to win every game, like we used to, and see how many points we have at the end."

Mahrez said City's wait to get over their defeat at Anfield was frustrating but insisted they had their heads held high.

"It’s the schedule, there is nothing you can do," he said.

"You have to be professional, take the defeat at Anfield and come back, as we did against Chelsea.

"We did well at Anfield, had 18 shots, 18 corners and they had four. We had the possession and the chances, and sometimes it’s like this, and you lose. But it was an encouraging performance.

"This win was important after the loss against Liverpool and after an international break you need to come back in good shape.

"After their goal we reacted well, scored twice and could have had more.

"We love to play every three days, so we rest and play, rest and play, that’s the best job."
