Riverside college student attacked in restroom, wields pencil

Jan. 16--An apparent bathroom stalker on the Riverside City College campus attacked a student, who stabbed him in the neck with a pencil, campus police said Thursday.

The student was washing her hands in a women's restroom in the Math/Science building when she looked behind her and saw the man, campus Police Chief Jim Miyashiro said in a statement.

She told police he pushed her to the ground and tried to rape her. She then stabbed him in the neck with the pencil. He got off of her, and she ran to class.

The student later reported the attack to police. Officers searched the area but did not find him. The student said she recognized her attacker from a description sent out by campus police on Wednesday after the same man reportedly entered a different women's bathroom on campus and made eye contact with a female student.

In Wednesday's incident, police say, he left the bathroom and then returned, entering a stall.

The student left and immediately notified police, who sent out the campus alert.

Police said the man did not appear to be a student. He was described as Latino, 20 to 30 years old, with black hair and a short black beard. He was wearing black pants and a black shirt.

Anyone with details about the man is urged to call campus police at (951) 222-8171.
