A South Australian woman who was arrested for allegedly failing to stop at a COVID-19 border crossing, after posting an anti-mask video live on social media, has been refused bail.
Celeste Lockwood, 37, from Renmark, appeared at the Berri Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with aggravated driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, driving disqualified and failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act.
Police alleged Ms Lockwood stopped for several minutes at the Yamba border crossing near the Victorian–South Australian border and spoke to police before taking off.
Police said road spikes were used to stop her car near Loxton North.
South Australians re-entering the state from Victoria are meant to do a 14-day quarantine.
Prior to the arrest, Ms Lockwood posted a six-minute live video on social media on Wednesday afternoon, where she told viewers they did not have to wear a mask, despite a current direction in Victoria to do so.
Ms Lockwood posted the video from outside a Mildura petrol station, which she entered without a mask, before being told by a staff member he would not be able to serve her.
Ms Lockwood told the attendee she did not have to wear a mask "as she had a condition" and told another customer who walked in without a mask to do the same.
"Our condition is our human body, even if you're not diagnosed with something everyone has something."
Ms Lockwood finished the video by urging viewers to "stand up for their rights".
She was refused bail to appear again on June 16.
