Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart hit back at split rumours

Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have responded to their break-up rumours.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Riverdale co-stars had split up following a two-year relationship with claims that people don’t “know s**t”.

Posting a picture of the latest cover of Wmagazine – which sees her posing with Sprouse – on Instagram, the 22-year-old actress wrote: “BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know s**t. (sic)”

Later, 26-year-old Sprouse also shared the same on his own social media page where he jokingly started his own rumour about the couple.

He wrote: “UNPRECEDENTED: Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart consume the flesh of ‘reliable sources’ to fuel their bacchanalian sex cult. (sic)”

The post sees him shirtless as he stands behind Lili with his thumb pressed against her lip.

The caption seemingly denies that the pair – who play on-screen loves Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones in the hit show– have broken up.

Their social media activity comes days after sources told US Weekly that things have been “super heavy” between them for some time.

Although the pair were seen together this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con sitting next to each other on the Riverdale panel, they reportedly kept their distance.

Sharing a snap of herself this weekend on the panel, Reinhart joked about her co-stars Sprouse and KJ Apa, writing: "Please don’t put me between these two ever again."

While fans have been speculating about the stars’ relationship for years, they only confirmed that they were an item back in 2018.

The speculation first began in 2017 when Sprouse shared a snap of the actress laying back in a field on Instagram.

He refused to confirm his relationship, telling People at the time: "Lili and I are constantly talked about in the public eye.

"For me I think that it is being deeply informed by the love of the characters and wanting to see us together.

"I think that in many ways it’s offensive and an invasion of privacy.

"But it’s also a badge of honour because it means you’re creating a chemistry on-screen that is so understandable that people want to see it in real life, which is flattering from a professional perspective.

"Because whether you dismiss those rumours or whether you encourage those rumours, it’s giving people who are in my opinion are a bit entitled to your personal life more power, and you have to have spaces for reverence in the industry.

"So I just never talk about it because it’s not anyone’s right to know.

"People can speculate all they want, people speculate about me with every member of the cast practically, but it’s really no one’s right to know.

"It’s also sexy, these parts of the relationships that are just yours."

However, they confirmed they were a couple when they posed arm-in-arm on the red carpet of the 2018 Met Gala.

The actress previously spoke to Teen Vogue about her relationship with Sprouse: "It’s just between two people, and that’s the way it should be."

The Standard has contacted reps for both Sprouse and Reinhart for comment.
