Spoiler warning for Riverdale season 4 episode 3
Riverdale finally brought its long-running storyline concerning the cult known as The Farm to an end with this week's episode, Dog Day Afternoon.
With The Farm holed up in an abandoned hotel on the orders of nefarious leader Edgar Evernever ( Chad Michael Murray ) who calls Betty (Lili Reinhart) on the phone of her mother Alice (Machen Amick) with a list of demands including money and passports for his followers.
However, with the Governor not wanting to negotiate with Edgar and Charles keen to get a hostage back, Edgar sends Polly over to them - but with a bomb strapped to her.
After some tense - and rather ridiculous - scenes, Betty disarms the bomb with a bobby pin.
Betty then uses her friends to gather up what Edgar wants but is knocked out by Evelyn Evernever.
The younger Cooper then wakes up tied next to Alice and it is revealed how insane Edgar's plan truly is: Evelyn will create a distraction by driving a bus full of Farmies off a cliff with Betty and Alice tied to the front, while Edgar takes off in a self-made rocket. Yep.
Naturally, Betty breaks her and Alice out and they free the Farmies to escape in a bus, despite Fangs trying to stop her.
Alice, however, has a vendetta and goes after Edgar who is trying to get in his rocket to "ascend", but Alice shoots him dead.
"Edgar ascended," says Alice to Betty.
Well, it was definitely a conclusion to a story that has been teased since the show's opening season.
Star Madchen Amick paid tribute to departing One Tree Hill actor Chad Michael Murray on Instagram , captioning a picture of her, Murray, and Reinhart: Can’t thank @chadmichaelmurray enough for being such a deliciously maniacal #riverdale foe."
However, she teased: Your performance of #Edgar goes down in the history books ps, now that your character is dead, you will definitely be back!! #noonediesonriverdale "
So, we'll probably see him again soon!
Meanwhile, Jughead made a new enemy at his prep school and Mary Andrews (Molly Ringwald) decided to stick around for Archie despite plans to leave Riverdale.
While Betty and Jug ended the episode with a delivery
