Rivera says he has ‘no regrets’ taking the Washington coaching job

Back in December, if Ron Rivera was made aware of the fact that he would be tasked with both cleaning up a sexual/verbal abuse case, as well as helping to pick a new name for the team in Washington all before he even held his first practice, do you think he still would have taken the head coaching job?

If you asked him today, his answer apparently remains ‘yes.’

“No regrets,” Rivera said via The Charlotte Observer. “I look forward to the challenge of improving a 3-13 team. I want to build a sustainable winning culture, in every facet.”

Taking over a 3-13 team with loads of young talent and few veteran stars who could help lead the way was already a big enough hill to climb up before all of the allegations and outside noise became prevalent. Now, Rivera will be the face of the cleanup job in Washington, and his need to set a new culture is more important than ever.

While it might have been a daunting task to right the ship in Washington, there were still aspects of the team that drew Rivera to it. Those aspects remain, and his confidence remains high.

“I knew that money was not an issue,” Rivera texted. “They (Washington) are a very young team holding the 2nd pick of the draft. Salary cap (was) in a good position as well and… I had time to fix things.”

There sure are a lot of things to fix.
