Rivera says adding Antonio Brown would ‘stunt the growth’ of Redskins WR’s

After some photos and videos of Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins emerged working out with free-agent wide receiver phenom Antonio Brown earlier this offseason, rumors started to swirl. With AB looking for a home, and the Redskins potentially looking for a veteran WR to add to their roster, it could be a match between two friends that seem to enjoy working out together.

On Wednesday morning, however, Redskins coach Ron Rivera put those rumors to rest, saying that there aren’t any plans to bring AB in at the moment, noting that adding a player of his caliber — with the intense spotlight that he brings — would take the shine away from the young receivers on the roster and not allow them to grow as they would have otherwise.

With players like Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims, Kelvin Harmon, and Antonio Gandy-Golden already on the roster, the future is seemingly bright for that young group, and they need to get as much room to grow as possible over the next couple of seasons. Adding a superstar like AB to the mix would directly handicap them and their career progression.

So if you were holding out hope that AB would be in a Redskins uniform sometime in the next year or two, I would start to focus on something else.
