WASHINGTON _ President Donald Trump is bringing in big league players to his fitness council.
The president announced his intent to appoint several former major league football and baseball players, former Olympians and celebrities to the President's Council on Sport, Fitness and Nutrition on Friday.
Trump named New York Yankees All-Star closer Mariano Rivera, three-time volleyball Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor and Heisman Trophy-winning Dallas Cowboys fullback Herschel Walker, as co-chairs for the council.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former Yankees and Red Sox outfielder Johnny David Damon also made the council roster. ("I think Donald's doing a great job of trying to bring everything to the table, just work at something instead of wasting people's time," Damon told Fox News. Damon was eliminated on the Monday premiere of "Dancing with the Stars.")
Other members include Mehmet Oz, better known as Dr. Oz as well as former Hulk actor and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno, who appeared in the 12th season of "The Apprentice."
A few non-sports names made it onto the list including CEO Chris Tisi, who owns Slim-Fast, a dieting shake business, and Trevor Drinkwater, a Hollywood producer with ties to Harvey Weinstein through Miramax and the former head of a failed company that made classical music tapes for babies.
Staunch Trump supporter and one-term congresswoman Nan Hayworth of New York also made the list. Sean Patrick Maloney would best Hayworth in 2016 for New York's 18th District seat.
The council was created in 1956 to encourage Americans to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
