River Trent Swarkestone: Police recover body of 15-year-old boy from water

The body believed to be that of a 15-year-old boy has been recovered from a stretch of the River Trent, police confirmed.

Police were called to the Swarkestone area of the river at about 5.30pm on Tuesday, July 20, following reports of a person in difficulty in the water.

Specialist teams from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Police and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service carried out extensive search and rescue efforts, but sadly the boy’s body was recovered from the water just after 11.30am on Wednesday, July 21.

Police confirmed the boy’s family have been made aware and specially trained officers are supporting them, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

Derbyshire Constabulary added: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this distressing time."

Police and fire crews were photographed by the River Trent between Barrow-on-Trent and Swarkestone at around 10am on Wednesday.

A helicopter was also mobilised to the area on Tuesday night to assist with the search operation.
