River Island to cut 350 staff and may close branches

River Island is reported to be planning to cut 350 jobs as part of a major restructure which could see some branches close.

In a letter to staff, the high street retailer called the pandemic "one of the most significant challenges that River Island has ever faced", reports The Mirror.

The retailer, which employs 7,900 people, will cut 350 store management and senior sales roles, according to The Sun.

Chief executive Will Kernan said: "We are now in the process of restructuring our retail teams by simplifying our store management structures. With a heavy heart, I can confirm that these changes will potentially impact up to 350 store management and senior sales roles."

Redundancies will come in September after a consultation period with staff.

According to Retail Gazette, the fashion retailer is to close some of its 300 stores and cut rents on others

The company declined to comment.
