River Clyde incident: police launch major rescue operation after reports of person in water

A major rescue operation has been launched on the River Clyde after reports of someone entering the water.

Officers are searching the river around Glasgow Bridge at Jamaica Street and emergency crews remain at the scene.

They responded to an emergency call at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

Boats have also been seen on the river with searches ongoing between major city bridges. It is understood a helicopter has been called in to help with the search.

A Police Scotland spokesman said that emergency crews remained at the scene.

He said: “Officers were called to the River Clyde, near to Glasgow Bridge, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 11 May, after a person is believed to have entered the water.

"Emergency services remain at the scene.”
