Rival club owner places valuation on Bristol Rovers star Jonson Clarke-Harris after Middlesbrough links

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has placed a valuation on Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

MacAnthony was asked how much he thinks Clarke-Harris was worth on Twitter, and gave his answer while praising the player he has become.

Rovers' key man has been linked with a move away from the Mem in January, with both Middlesborough and Hull City reportedly interested in the former Coventry man.

With the club still in discussion with the striker's agent about a new contract, his future is unclear. But, MacAnthony has still taken a guess at his current value.

He said: "Considering age, injuries, clubs, shot at higher league prior, comfortably £1.75mill to £2 mill plus few add ons.

"Happy for him doing so well. Liked him when he was a 17 year old kid. He has grown up into excellent player."

MacAnthony worked with Clarke-Harris when he was a youth player at Peterborough and has previously praised him online, despite JCH not getting any first team appearances for the Posh.

Bristol Rovers CEO Martyn Starnes has previously said that any player at the club could be sold if the right valuation comes in.

Speaking after the departure of former boss Graham Coughlan, he said: "Evey player has a value so if an offer came in for Jonson Clarke-Harris or anybody else in the club we would have to consider what's in the best interest of the club.

"Would it be in the best interest of the club to sell the player, is it in the best interest to retain the player. That's part of the football business. We have that challenge every transfer window."

However, the valuation is very telling as to how he rates his own players above the rest in the Championship.

Peterborough striker Ivan Toney has also been linked with a move away, and the league's top scorer has reportedly been valued at over £11 million.

The Posh owner said that if Toney was to depart his club, it would have to be for a record League One transfer fee, which currently stands at the £11 million Everton paid Charlton for Ademola Lookman.
