Rival boss offers telling Steve Cooper verdict ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Preston North End head coach Frankie McAvoy has praised the impact Steve Cooper has had at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds host the Lilywhites at the City Ground on Saturday looking to end a run of three games without a win as they go into the international break.

It has still been some turnaround in form since Cooper took charge, though, with the Welshman overseeing just one defeat in eight games.

Forest had been rock bottom of the Championship table under previous boss Chris Hughton, but Cooper has got them playing entertaining football and picking up results - showing their character with some dramatic late goals.

And McAvoy says his side will have to be on top form to compete with their opponents on the banks of the Trent.

“I know we’ve almost sold out our allocation from this weekend so hopefully we can go there and do the job for them on Saturday, they will be the 12th man for us again this weekend,” he told the club, as relayed by their official Twitter feed.

“We will need to be on it, and hopefully we can come up trumps. Steve Cooper has gone in there and done really well. He’s a top coach and a lovely bloke as well, he has got Forest structured in a good way.”

Preston are also on a good run, having registered back-to-back victories over Luton Town and table-toppers Bournemouth.

McAvoy says that will give them belief as they prepare to take on the Reds.

“Our confidence is good, winning breeds confidence and hopefully the group realise that we are a decent team and we can go out there and give it a good crack no matter who we are playing,” he said.
