Rival boss admits relegation 'surprise' as Nottingham Forest face Premier League battle

Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil has given his thoughts on the Premier League relegation fight as Nottingham Forest fight a host of other teams to beat the drop.

O'Neil's Cherries sit 18th in the league table with 24 points, four places but just two points below Forest. The likes of Southampton, Leeds, West Ham, Leicester and Everton are also in the race - which has come as a surprise to O'Neil.

"I see a lot in the performances that make me believe we can be competitive in every game," he said on talkSPORT. "When you are in a relegation scrap in this league it is ruthless and there are moments where you feel like you get things you don’t deserve and you lose football matches.

"The response the lads give and what they give in every single football match just makes me think every time we turn up we will have a rea good chance. There are 12 huge ones to go and we all firmly believe we will do enough to get over the line.

"One of the huge positives for us, if you had asked a question August you would have said Bournemouth first [to go down] one hundred per cent, as would have most people. The fact that we are now right in the mix with so many other teams is a big achievement so far but it won’t mean anything if we don’t manage to get the job done.

"There is still work to do, I am surprised there are so many teams in it still, so many good sides that are still not clear of it. But when you are in there and down amongst it, we want as many teams involved as we can.

"It won’t change our approach, whether it’s us and two others or us and seven others we will give our best to win everything football match."
