‘Ritzy’ exhibition of Edwardian fashion to bring royal gowns to Scotland for first time

  • A new exhibition, The Edwardians: Age Of Elegance, is opening at the King’s Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, running from Friday until 6 December.
  • A highlight of the exhibition is Queen Alexandra's dazzling gold coronation gown from 1902, which was designed to sparkle under electric lights and described as “incredibly novel” for its time.
  • More than half of the 150 Royal Collection exhibits, including Alexandra's iconic dress, are being shown in Scotland for the very first time.
  • The exhibition explores the “ritzy” lifestyle, travels, and personal interests of Edward VII and Alexandra, covering the period from their 1863 wedding to the end of the First World War.
  • Other notable items on display include King Edward VII’s coronation attire, works by artists like Frederic, Lord Leighton, and items from the royals’ private collections by designers such as Faberge and Tiffany & Co.
