The saga from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade continues.
Since the 34-year-old dropped her visual masterpiece some members of her loyal and often relentless fan base, the Beehive, have been up in arms about one particular lyric. In the single “Sorry”, which features a cameo from Serena Williams in the video, she sings: “He only want me when I’m not there, He better call Becky with the good hair.” With themes in the album revolving around relationships, infidelity and reconciliation, the rumour mill went into overdrive.
The Beyhive flooded New York designer Rachel Roy’s Instagram with bee and lemon emojis on Sunday after some accused her of being “Becky” following an Instagram post referencing “good hair”. A day later they turned their attention to Rita Ora who is signed to Jay Z’s record label, yet currently involved in a legal battle with the label.
On Tuesday, Ora’s Instagram comments varied from the emojis to offensive, misogynistic insults.
The 25-year-old Londoner responded to the comments and “tabloid gossip” with posts on Instagram clarifying that the rumours have no basis and she has the “utmost respect for Beyonce”.
Who the next “Becky” will be is anyone’s guess.
