Rita Bhaduri died at the age of 62 on Tuesday.

Rita Bhaduri, one of the film and TV industries’ beloved veteran actors, died after kidney-related complications on Tuesday. Several of her colleagues offered condolences on her passing and her funeral was held later that same day.

Interest in her career has seen an increase since her death. The actor, a noted alumnus of the famed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, began her career during the 1960s. She played important supporting parts in movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kya Kehna, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon. She also featured in Gujarati movies.

On the TV front, her credits include popular shows like Hasratein, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Khichdi, Ek Nayi Pehchaan, Amanat, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka and Kumkum. She was particularly popular for playing roles of a mother or grandmother.

Here are five more facts about the actor.

Contrary to a long-held belief, she wasn’t Jaya Bachchan’s sister. “When I came to Jaipur last time, someone had asked me whether I am sister of Jaya Bhaduri? I was very angry to hear this,” Rita said in an interview.

During her time at FTII, the actor Zarina Wahab was a batchmate of hers.

Her most recent movie role came in the 2017 Gujarati film, Tamburo. She was currently playing a grandmother on the serial, Nimki Mukhiya.

During her four-decade-long career, she had starred in films starring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Jackie Shroff, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Shashi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna and others.

She was awarded the Filmfare for best supporting actor for her performance in the 1995 film, Raja. The film starred Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor in lead roles.
