Rising Stars Hyderabad off to a rousing start in Level 4 basketball tournament

HYDERABAD: A strong show by Sanskruthi in the second half couldn’t prevent Rising Stars Hyderabad from notching up a comfortable 44-31 win in the inaugural match of the Level 4 of the Annual League Basketball Championship, conducted by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association, for the GM Sampath Kumar Trophy at the City College Old Boys (CCOB) courts in the Old City on Thursday.

Rising Stars Hyderabad, who were leading 32-17 at half-time, have started their campaign on a rousing note and look good for the rest of the tournament.

Shashi Kamal and Sai Kamal gave Rising Stars a resounding start by notching up 19 points in the first quarter against four by the losers. Things went Rising Stars' way as their hoopsters held the upper hand in the next two quarters.

Rising Stars scored 13 points while Sanskruthi scored five points in the second quarter. It was the same story in the third quarter too as Rising Stars held sway.

However, in the last quarter, Sanskruthi hoopsters managed to put up a fight, mainly because their rivals had eased off a bit. Sanskuthi outscored Rising Stars 9-7 which, however, was not sufficient to take them to victory.

Sai Kamal led the scorers tally for the winner with 12 points scoring thrice from the 3-point area, Shashi Kamal scored 10, Nikhil and Varshith Raj contributed 8 points each with the latter having 2 successful shots from the 3-point zone.

For the losers, Balashowry had an individual score of 11, Pruthvi 10 with a solitary 3-point shot and Yogi had a score of 6 points.

The Annual League Basketball Championship is the premier event of The Hyderabad District Basketball Association with over 45 teams participating. The event is played over 4 levels culminating with Level 1 where the top Club teams and Department teams will vie for supremacy.
