Rising star Jayson Tatum sounds like a Celtics Lifer

Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has raised his game this season and with that success has come the type of recognition given to a player of star, or perhaps even superstar, status.

With the evolution of his game and league-wide renown, there’s been another benefit for Tatum, too. The ever-growing admiration of a fan base and organization that, no doubt, wants the All-Star to be with the Celtics for his entire career.

Fortunately for Boston, it appears that the feeling has been reciprocated. Speaking to color commentary and former Celtics great Tommy “Tommy Gun” Heinsohn, Tatum elaborated on how his respect for the organization and his pride to be on the team has grown since being drafted in 2017.

While paying his respects to his predecessors, including Heinsohn, Hall of Fame center Bill Russell and 10-time All-Star Paul Pierce, Tatum says “I’ve learned so much about the Celtics that I didn’t previously know before I got here…”

“You feel the energy, the atmosphere, the fans are the best and it’s not like that in every city we go to. We truly have the best fans and it really is a sense of pride putting that jersey on every night… I couldn’t be happier being here.”

Tatum is in just his third season with the Celtics and may have already become part of the franchise’s lore with his status as the future (or is it now current?) face of the franchise.

With his recent comments highlighting how he’s become increasingly enamored with being in Boston, it stands to reason that Celtics Nation will get their wish. He has a great chance of being the Celtics’ best player since Paul Pierce and if Boston keeps together their current core, he has the chance to win as many championships as Celtics legend Larry Bird.

One thing is for sure though.

The city is behind him and he’s behind them.
