Name: Alex Barlow
Business: Sesame Access Systems
Job title: Operations manager
Website: www.sesameaccess.com
Alex joined Sesame as an administration apprentice in May 2013, aged 20. He had recently completed a diploma and wanted an apprenticeship position in a fast-growing company.
Initially we asked Alex to review our website and develop new content. He brought a new angle to the website, freshening it up and making it more customer friendly.
Straight away Alex demonstrated great customer skills, so was asked to lead on service contract maintenance. He always had time to talk to customers, which paid dividends in customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Alex finished his apprenticeship in May 2014. We knew we needed to retain him, and promoted him to operations manager as he was already leading on many roles to great effect.
We design, build and install bespoke wheelchair access solutions. Every project is unique, making it vitally important that each task is completed correctly first time. With such high targets, efficient processes are vital to ensure each one is met. Alex implements all of these processes, identifying problems and designing and perfecting solutions, ensuring they solve the issue permanently.
Alex plays a large role in the sales, marketing and customer service departments, also leading on the development and maintenance of our online presence, making him an incredibly valuable member of the team. It’s less than six months since his apprenticeship and he’s already training up another apprentice.
We confidently trust Alex to meet clients and attend events on behalf of the company, knowing he’ll represent the company to our high standards.
Alison Lyons is director of commercial development at Sesame Access Systems.
