Rising Smailes Goldie stars named in prestigious UK accountancy list

Two rising stars in Hull firm Smailes Goldie have been named in a prestigious UK list of the top young accountants.

Luke Taylor and Mike Stocks have been named on Accountancy Age’s 35-under-35 2019 list in 20th and 29th places respectively.

Luke and Mike both joined Smailes Goldie Group as trainees in 2009, before qualifying in 2012 and being promoted to manager in 2014.

In 2016, they were made associates and became partners at the firm in 2017.

Luke said: “It is great to have been named amongst the UK’s top young accountants and to have made the list alongside Mike.

“It speaks volumes for the quality of the professional training programme here at Smailes Goldie Group that we have both progressed in our careers so quickly and have now received this important external recognition.”

Since joining Smailes Goldie, Luke has overseen the firm’s efforts to bring the benefits of cloud accounting to its clients.

He also jointly leads its innovative Smailes Goldie Blueprint consultancy service.

Mike is a specialist in corporate finance transactions, with strong experience in acquisitions and disposals, due diligence and corporate restructuring.

He said: “I am delighted to have been included in the list alongside Luke.

“The professional training here is second-to-none and this is borne out by the fact we have both reached this level at the same time.”

Smailes Goldie is a Hull-based accountancy and business advisory firm.

It works with businesses of all shapes and sizes, from sole traders to large corporates.

The firm specialises in the agriculture, healthcare and legal sectors, and offers a variety of services including compliance, accounts, bookkeeping, payroll advice and tax planning.

Having two of its rising stars named in the prestigious Accountancy Age list is a huge coup for Smailes Goldie.

“The recognition they have received is well-deserved and I doubt it will come as any surprise to our clients.”
