Rising Lanarkshire musician Connor Fyfe can't wait to get back on stage

A young musician set to headline this year’s Eaglesham Beer Festival says he can’t wait to get back playing live music.

And that includes gigs lined up for East Kilbride.

Bellshill lad Connor Fyfe has been making a name for himself across the Glasgow music scene, having released his debut album last month.

He may only be 13, but having already played gigs at some of Scotland’s top music venues and biggest festivals, he is planning on going all the way to the top.

Connor told the News: “I’ve been playing guitar since I was about eight and it all stemmed from there.

“A lot of people can’t believe it, but I used to hate singing. I would never do it.

“I started to gain some confidence though and I began to sing covers and stuff. I grew to enjoy it.

“I played my first gig when I was 11 and it has been a pretty crazy journey ever since.”

Connor released his debut album ‘Don’t’ a few weeks ago and the eight track album has been making a positive noise throughout Glasgow, leading to bigger and better gigs for the teen.

He added: “My favourite song to play live is ‘War’. At the end of the song, the lyrics get repetitive and easy and the crowd will sing along. It is really cool to hear.

“I supported The Snuts at King Tuts a few weeks ago, and that song sounded amazing there. I love it there – it’s such an iconic venue for the Scottish music scene.

“I played Motherwell Concert Hall which was brilliant as well, but it has got nothing on King Tuts.”

Connor was set to play the Eaglesham Beer Festival this May, but this is likely to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At his live shows, he likes to bring a mix of both original and cover songs to wow the crowd and he is in talks to play gigs across Lanarkshire, in the likes of East Kilbride and Hamilton. He said: “The originals are fun to play, but the covers get folk going, especially at a festival.

“I am a huge fan of The Beatles and I cover a lot of their stuff. Other songs I like to cover are Oasis and Lewis Capaldi. I like songs that really get the crowd going, especially when I am at festivals.”
