Rising Covid cases fail to dampen students’ enthusiasm in Bhopal; over 70% attendance in schools

BHOPAL: With almost 70% attendance, after three consecutive waves of Covid-19, schools in Bhopal are back to normal. School buildings that had been deserted for over two years due to Covid-19, started welcoming the students back for offline classes. Teachers said that the attendance will be better from next week.

The last two years proved to be the toughest academic years the world has ever faced. With the mode of classes being shifted to online, students struggled to keep up with their syllabus and exams.

The veil of uncertainty, however, has started lifting now even though the vaccination drive has witnessed a slow-down in the past few months.

District Education Officer, Bhopal, Nitin Saxena, said that around 70%-80% turnout of students attending government schools was witnessed in the past two days after the opening of the campuses. Saxena added that the students were enthusiastic and eager to go back to school after the longest break in the history of education.

Most private schools too received similar responses from their students. Delhi Public School, Bhadbhada Road reported that the major strength of its students from all classes had eagerly returned to the campus.

Sagar Public School, Saket Nagar also reported good strength as a good strength of students have joined classes without any problem.

Radcliffe School, which reopened on June 13 also claimed to have a strength of 80% of students from all classes. While most schools are now witnessing a high percentage of students reporting back on campus, some schools are still waiting for their students to show up.

DEO Bhopal Saxena reiterated that the schools will have to follow the SOPs of the health department.
