Rishi Sunak to give emergency speech amid Tory chaos – how to watch

RISHI Sunak will give an emergency press conference as he looks to defend his Rwanda plan.

The news of the 11am briefing was announced with just an hour’s notice on Thursday.

It comes as Sunak tries to firefight after the resignation of immigration minister Robert Jenrick over the details of the Rwanda bill.

Jenrick claimed the extremist bill, which would force judges to consider Rwanda a safe country and remove human rights protections for many asylum seekers, does “not go far enough”.

And on Thursday morning, former home secretary Suella Braverman piled fresh pressure on the Prime Minister over his strategy to stop small boats.

Braverman told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “Taken as a whole and looking at the reality of the challenges that are involved in detaining people, removing people and getting them to Rwanda – this is a very litigious field and there are lots of legal frameworks that apply – the reality is and the sorry truth is that it won’t work and it will not stop the boats.”

Amid the infighting, No 10 announced that Sunak would give a press conference at 11am.

How to watch Rishi Sunak’s emergency press conference?
