Rishi Sunak snubs Andrew Bowie as Alister Jack reappointed Scotland Secretary

ALISTER Jack will stay in post as Scotland Secretary amid Rishi Sunak's Cabinet reshuffle in a snub to one of his parliamentary backers.

Andrew Bowie, Tory MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, put his weight behind Sunak in the summer leadership contest and has campaigned for the former chancellor to take over as PM.

Jack, MP for Dumfries and Galloway, has served in the role since 2019 when Boris Johnson took over the role of prime minister.

Liz Truss, who only survived in office for 49 days, kept Jack in place and Sunak has come to the same decision.

Speaking after his re-appointment was confirmed, Jack said: “I am very pleased to have been reappointed as Scottish Secretary.

“We are facing very significant challenges both at home and abroad, and there is much to be done.

“We need to bring stability to our economy and our public finances, deliver long term prosperity for everyone in our country, and continue to sustain and strengthen the Union.

“We will build on our track record of supporting families and businesses in Scotland, and investing millions directly into Scottish communities.

“I very much look forward to working with the Prime Minister to deliver for all parts of the United Kingdom.”
