NEW DELHI: The Uttarakhand government on Sunday named India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant as the state's brand ambassador for promoting sports and general health. Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called up Pant and shared his vision before getting him on board.
Dhami announced the development on Twitter late on Sunday night. "Rishabh Pant is one of India's finest cricketers. He is an inspiration for the youth and also a son of Uttarakhand. He has been appointed as the state's brand ambassador for sports and general health. I spoke to him over video call to congratulate him and also invited him for a meeting," Dhami said in a tweet which was posted in Hindi.
Pant posted a tweet thanking Dhami for the opportunity. "I'll do my best to spread this message and feeling happy that you are taking these steps towards a fitter India. Coming from a small town of Roorkee, I am confident that the people here have the ability to make the country proud in various fields of life," Pant tweeted.
Pant is just 24 years old and is seen as one of the key members of the Indian team across formats. "It's a huge honour for me. The discussion I had with Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami was very inspiring. I know I have a responsibility to inspire people and this gives me the confidence to work even harder. The importance of sports and fitness can never be undermined. We all need to do our bit to bring about an awareness of a healthy lifestyle," Pant said.
