Rise in daily Covid hospital deaths but South West remains second-lowest

The number of daily coronavirus hospital deaths across England have risen today (December 2) - but the South West's total remains the second-lowest.

A further 372 deaths people who tested positive for Covid-19 have been recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in English hospitals to 41,310. This compare's to Tuesday's 350 and Monday's 183.

Of today's total, 28 fatalities were confirmed in the South West.

Only London recorded fewer deaths, with 26.

Meanwhile, the Midlands recorded the highest death toll of 100.

The North West confirmed the second-biggest jump of 92.

Among those who died was a 19-year-old who had no underlying health conditions.

Patients were aged between 19 and 103 years old. All except 17 (aged 19 to 93 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 31
  • London - 26
  • Midlands - 100
  • North East & Yorkshire - 61
  • North West - 92
  • South East – 34
  • South West - 28

On Tuesday, North Somerset recorded four more fatalities, according to Public Health England's statistic which looks at deaths in all settings.

Bristol, Gloucester and Somerset West and Taunton confirmed a further two deaths, as did Bath and North East Somerset.
