'Rise in covid cases' forces Cardiff Bus to cancel services over staff shortages

Cardiff Bus has announced that they have cancelled some journeys on Tuesday due to staff shortages. The bus company encouraged service users to look at the live departures on the website and app.

In a tweet on March 23, Cardiff Bus wrote: "Unfortunately, due to staff shortages we have cancelled some journeys today. Please take a look at the live departures on our website and app, or view buses in operation by tracking them in real-time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Passengers have reported cancellations across routes including the X45, 61, 57, 58, 44, 21 and 23. People on social media reported cancellations of buses on various routes to the bus company this morning.

In response to one traveller who tweeted the company to report the cancellation of two X45 buses in a row, the bus company wrote: "With the rise in covid cases we are experiencing staff shortages and unfortunately this results in us having to cancel services, as a company we do not like to let our customer down but with absences rising we do not have the staff to cover all trips advertised, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused."

Cardiff Bus said in a statement: "We have had to cancel some journeys today due to a sudden increase in short-term sickness amongst our staff. We would like to apologise to any of our customers who are affected by this and we want to reassure them that we are working hard to ensure that services resume as normal as soon as possible"
