Rise in Covid cases across Bristol before schools head back

There have been 61 new coronavirus cases confirmed in the Bristol region in the past 24 hours, according to the latest government figures.

Bristol recorded the highest number of Covid cases with 30, followed by North Somerset which recorded 13 new cases.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded ten new cases, while South Gloucestershire recorded just eight new cases in the past 24 hours.

It's a slight increase on yesterday's figure of 56 new cases in the Bristol region.

The news comes shortly after data from the Department of Health showed the number of coronavirus patients being cared for in Bristol's hospitals has dropped to below 100.

The figures showed there are 97 people in our local hospitals who have tested positive for Covid-19, and 18 battling on ventilators.

Daily figures for the number of deaths recorded in the last 24 hours are currently unavailable due to a processing issue on the Government website.

Breakdown of positive test results

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

Bath and North East Somerset: 8,044 (+10)

Bristol: 29,726 (+30)

North Somerset: 9,740 (+13)

South Gloucestershire: 14, 658 (+8)

UK figures

The UK recorded 5,177 new cases of the coronavirus within the last 24 hours.

This is a decrease on yesterdays figure of 6,040 that was reported.

The total number of cases across the entirety of the UK since the pandemic began now stands at 4,218,520.

Due to a processing issue, there is currently no indication as to how many deaths were recorded within the last 24 hours across the country.
