Rise in coronavirus cases recorded in two areas across Bristol region

Coronavirus cases have continued to rise in Bristol after the city recorded its biggest daily jump in several weeks over the weekend.

According to figures released by Public Health England today (Monday, August 17), four new patients have been diagnosed with the deadly virus in the city over the past 24 hours, bringing our total to 1,401.

The day before, nine new further patients were diagnosed, which was the largest increase for roughly six weeks.

The last time Bristol's cases surpassed nine was on July 3, when the Government updated its data to include tests carried out in community mobile centres as well as hospitals.

Meanwhile North Somerset  recorded an increase of two, bringing the district's total to 927.

Cases in Bath and North East Somerset  and South Gloucestershire have remained at the same at 368 and 783 respectively.

Nationally, 713 new cases were reported today, bringing the UK's total to 319,197. Three Covid-related deaths were also recorded across the UK over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 41,369.
