Rise in coronavirus cases in Bristol one week after kids returned to school

There has been a rise in Bristol's coronavirus cases one week after children returned to school.

The latest figures show 42 infections were confirmed across the city over the past 24 hours.

This compares to 22 on Monday, 28 on Sunday, and 17 on Saturday.

It's now been eight days since all pupils returned to classrooms last Monday. Experts warned there could be an increase in cases following schools reopening. But they predicted the rise would not be high enough to impact the Government's provisional roadmap out of lockdown.

Data released today (March 16) also shows another two coronavirus deaths have been confirmed across the Bristol region.

One Covid patient died in Bristol over the past 24 hours, bringing our city's death toll to 466, where the patient died within 28 days of a positive test.
