Rise in coronavirus cases across Bristol region as almost 3,000 confirmed nationally

All four areas across the Bristol region have yet again recorded a rise in coronavirus cases, as almost 3,000 are confirmed nationally.

A further 14 cases were reported in Bristol today (Thursday) bringing the city's total to 1,606.

While South Gloucestershire saw a rise of seven, which now has 884.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded an increase of two, the total there is 447.

And North Somerset has 1,010 following an increase of one.

UK-wide, 2,919 new cases were confirmed, bringing the nation's total to 358,138.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a new death over the past 24 hours, where deaths remain at 271.

Southmead Hospital reported a coronavirus-related death on Tuesday August 25, which was the first in the city for two months.

Nationally, 14 further Covid-related deaths were recorded, bringing the UK's total to 41,608.

Outbreaks across city

The figures come on the same day that four Bristol schools and a supermarket have been hit with Covid.

Hundreds of pupils are now self-isolating after pupils at Two Mile Hill Primary School, John Williams Oasis Academy in Hengrove, Kings' Forest Primary School and Shirehampton Primary School were diagnosed with the virus.

And Waitrose in Portishead was forced to open an hour later than normal to allow for a deep clean to be carried out after one of its staff tested positive for coronavirus.
