Ripper Street – season 4

The Ripper Street team are back for their fourth season, which moves the action forwards a few years to 1897. Detective Inspector Reid (Matthew Macfadyen), Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn), Rose Erskine (Charlene McKenna), Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) and Long Susan Hart (MyAnna Buring) all return to find Queen Victoria getting ready for her diamond jubilee. Dropped by the BBC and revived by Amazon for its third season (which was then shown on BBC1), it’s proved itself to be a series worth watching.

“When was the last time the five of us were in the same place at the same time?” A remake of the snappy Sky 1 drama, which starred Max Beesley, Marc Warren, Philip Glenister and John Simm as a bunch of middle-aged mates reuniting in Spain and discovering that one of their old gang (Ben Chaplin) has got himself caught up with some dodgy drug dealers. In this new version from executive producer Shawn Ryan (The Shield) it’s Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Romany Malco (Weeds) and Ben Chaplin (again) getting together in Belize. With Billy Zane and Fargo’s Allison Tolman. The first episode is available to stream now with all 10 episodes from 22 January.

Lucifer – season 1

“Stop caring, you’re the Devil…” Based on the DC Comics character who first appeared in Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed Sandman series. Brit Tom Ellis (AKA Gary from Miranda) stars as the archangel, who has recently swapped hell for Los Angeles and decided to help out LAPD detective Chloe (Lauren German) with her cases. Lesley-Ann Brandt plays his pal Maze, Rachael Harris is his therapist and DB Woodside (Buffy, 24) plays another angel. New episodes will stream every Tuesday, 24 hours after the US broadcast on Fox.
