Riot police called to get jubilant England fans off roofs of London buses

Riot police were called in as jubilant England fans scaled the roof of a London bus to celebrate reaching the final of Euro 2020 last night.

There were wild scenes in Piccadilly Circus, down Regent Street and in Leicester Square as fans cut loose following England's 2-1 victory over Denmark in extra time at Wembley.

Partying supporters leapt on top of a red Transport for London double-decker bus in Piccadilly Circus, MyLondon reports. The number 9 service to Aldwych was mobbed on Coventry Street.

More than a dozen fans danced and sang "It's Coming Home" on the roof of the bus while thousands partied with them in the street below.

But police in riot gear soon moved in to cut the party short, forcing all those up high to climb down.

One fan could be seen still on top of the bus, lying casually on his side enjoying the view, as he resisted coming down for as long as possible.

Fans also scaled lampposts and traffic lights in the heart of London as joy spilled over after England reached their first final of a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup.

An own goal and a goal from captain Harry Kane won it against Denmark in extra time.

MyLondon reporters at the scene described how fans lifted red flares into the air in celebration.

Unfortunately, there was damage done and a bus window was smashed.

Wednesday's game saw Denmark take an early lead before Raheem Sterling brought England level, while captain Kane's penalty was saved in extra time only for him to put in the rebound which secured the win at Wembley.

Manager Gareth Southgate expressed his pride in his team after the match was done.
