Riot cops storm flat as guitars and microwave chucked from window in two-hour siege

Police were forced to storm a building following a tense two-hour stand off with a man who barricaded himself in his flat last night in Paisley.

The dramatic siege saw the man block a doorway to his third-floor flat before smashing the windows and throwing a number of objects out onto the street below - including guitars, a microwave and other household items.

A huge police presence descended on the scene on Blysthwood Street in the Shortroods area around 8:20 pm last night following reports of a disturbance - with the street cordoned off to the public as a result as they dealt with the incident.

Specialist negotiators were also drafted in to try and coax the man out of his flat, with police resorting to storming the building after those efforts failed, the Paisley Daily Express reports.

Police have since confirmed that a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and that there was no wider threat to the public.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident.

Sergeant Stevie Airlie from Paisley's Community Policing Team told the paper: "Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a flat in Blythswood Drive, Paisley at around 8.20pm on Monday night.

"A number of specialist resources were deployed to the scene, including negotiators and method of entry officers.

"A cordon was put in place and there was no risk to the wider public.

"A 23-year-old male was removed from the flat and taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance.

"Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the incident."
