Rio Ferdinand 'welcomes' Declan Rice to Manchester United amid transfer interest

Rio Ferdinand has cheekily 'welcomed' Declan Rice to Manchester United after being asked who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side should target in midfield this summer.

United are set for a busy transfer window this summer, with the club looking to buy a right-sided forward, a central defensive partner for Harry Maguire and a central midfielder on the agenda.

The club have placed Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and West Ham's Declan Rice as their priority targets in these areas - while a move for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier is also on the cards.

United could splash millions in the market in order to land their ideal recruits ahead of next season and Ferdinand has had his say on who the club should sign.

Will Manchester United sign Declan Rice this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Conducting a Q&A with supporters on social media, Ferdinand was asked by one fan 'what number 6 should United buy this summer?'

The former defender responded with 'welcome @_DeclanRice', tagging the West Ham midfielder's account and finishing off his tweet with a crazy-faced emoji.

His actions did upset some West Ham fans on social media, who hit out at a perceived 'lack of class' against the club where his career began.

Ferdinand was also asked if he expects Sancho to be a United player imminently and replied: Yes... just driving to Manchester now to get it done! Come on @Sanchooo10'

Both England internationals are currently representing their nation at the European Championship, with Rice catching the eye in England's 1-0 victory over Croatia on Sunday.

Sancho was one of three players omitted from the matchday squad for that game and will be looking to feature in Friday's clash against Scotland.
