Rio Ferdinand urges Ralf Rangnick to deliver on his first Manchester United promise

Rio Ferdinand has urged Ralf Rangnick to deliver on one of his first Manchester United promises.

The innovative German suffered defeat for the first time as United interim manager last night when plucky Wolves picked up a deserved 1-0 win at Old Trafford — with Joao Moutinho striking a decisive blow in the dying embers.

They had chances to salvage a draw and preserve their unbeaten start under Rangnick.

However, it was largely another under-par display from United as they — individually and collectively — were unable to match their well-drilled opponents.

Ferdinand addressed his current United concerns on his Vibe With Five podcast and YouTube video.

The pundit says it's far too early to judge Rangnick's impact at Old Trafford but, while comparing him to Antonio Conte at Tottenham, the former United defender admits that he does want to see the German get the best out of his star-studded group; as promised upon his appointment.

Ferdinand said: "We can talk about this being the first defeat in how many games, as Rangnick was saying before the game, but performances since his first game probably haven't been anywhere near what we were anticipating when he first came in.

"Yes, he still needs time to shape the team his way.

Do you agree with Ferdinand's claim? Have your say in the comments section below.

"The problem he's got is you look at someone like Conte and the stark contrast in the way his team played before he came to the results... They [Tottenham] are still not firing on all cylinders, but there is a big improvement in their team and especially the results.

"That's what Ralf Rangnick is going to be judged against in some ways. You can't judge him yet. It's too early.

"One of the key things he said when he came in was that he said he would get individuals playing better. I want to see that because, at the moment, I'm still not seeing it."
