Former Manchester United defender and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has told Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino what he needs to do to get the best out of Dele Alli.
The England international has played just once in the Premier League so far this season but was named in the starting line-up for the mammoth Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.
Alli's return in front of goal decreased last season, netting five in the Premier League - his lowest tally since making the move to North London from MK Dons.
The 23-year-old has been challenged to improve his return once again this season but Ferdinand believes he needs help from Pochettino, and needs to be played in his best position.
"He needs to be played to his strengths. A lot of the time we see Dele Alli coming to the ball with his back turned," he told BT Sport.
"I want to see him like when he first came on the scene and he was scoring goals. What was he doing? He was running into the box and getting there late.
"He had a nous at knowing where to be in the box. When he gets there he is very instinctive and he can finish. Far too often he has been coming to the ball."
Former Spurs striker Peter Crouch agreed with Ferdinand's assessment, but backed Alli to get back to his best as soon as he opens his account for the campaign.
"It's goals. I don't think he's scored since January. Finding the back of the net will kick-start his season."
